STAMFORD, CT – The Stamford Partnership, on behalf of the City of Stamford and in partnership with Frontier Communications, is proud to announce SWIFI, a free high-speed public WiFi network. This network is currently accessible throughout downtown Stamford including the central business district and areas around UCONN and Columbus, Veterans, and Mill River Parks.

“The Stamford Partnership, as part of its ongoing strategy to enhance the quality of life for those that live and work in Stamford, is extremely pleased to offer SWIFI to users throughout the city,” said Jon Winkel, Executive Director of the Stamford Partnership. “We envision students, business associates, tourists, festival organizers, and event-goers using the network throughout the downtown and parks.”

SWIFI is very simple and easy to use. Users first select “SWIFI” from the list of available WiFi networks on their device, enter their email address to log-in, and then enjoy up to one hour of complementary high-speed browsing. Users will have the ability to logon up to three times each day.

“A modern city like Stamford should have ubiquitous high-speed internet access and this is a first step toward achieving that vision,” said Mayor David Martin. “The youngest generation grew up with internet access, college campuses have widespread wireless internet, and many apartment buildings provide internet access to their tenants. Providing this service will make our city more attractive to residents and businesses.”

“We are thrilled to expand this service in Stamford. Our wireless internet service provides customers with an enhanced web-surfing experience by eliminating the need to be inside a building, making for a more enjoyable experience throughout Stamford Downtown,” said Boris Kluck, SVP Enterprise Sales at Frontier.

This convenient service is an amenity for all to enjoy in the city. The network is planned to expand northward to Latham Park and southward to the transportation center. Plans to expand east and west are also underway. The Stamford Partnership is offering local businesses advertising space on the splash page of SWIFI.
