Women’s leadership stalls where it should begin: the first rung.

At our recent McKinsey & Company Women’s Leadership event, the Stamford Partnership convened leaders to explore findings on the “Broken Rung”—the critical first promotion into management where women are most often held back.

The conversation highlighted both the structural barriers women continue to face and the concrete actions organizations can take to build more inclusive leadership pipelines.

We’re grateful to our partners at McKinsey & Company (Redaelli, Stefano Lisa Vigliotti Harkness, Christina Hong), to the leaders who shared their insights (Nadene McKenzie-Reid, Dana Randell, CPA, Caroline Simmons for Mayor, Mallory Martino), and to our dedicated board members and supporters (Rowena Track, Jodi Gutierrez, Jennifer Orlikoff).

Events like this remind us: advancing equity isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s essential to unlocking talent, innovation, and growth across our community.
