The Stamford Partnership’s StartLab Poised to Fuel Local Start-Ups, Entrepreneurs

New initiative will support burgeoning businesses across the city; May programming includes dynamic event with Wefunder hub

STAMFORD, CT (April 19, 2022) — The Stamford Partnership — one of Connecticut’s leading economic and community development groups — is launching StartLab, an ambitious initiative to fuel the city’s burgeoning start-up and early-stage business landscape. The initiative will equip local entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills, and community necessary to launch and grow a successful business.

StartLab will provide a range of resources and services to Stamford’s start-ups and entrepreneurs, from networking opportunities, to hands-on digital skills training, to introductions to funders and funding sources.

One of StartLab’s first events will be a dynamic learning session with Wefunder, a leading crowdfunding company which connects start-ups with investors online (Zenefits and Goldbelly are among companies who have used the platform). The event, held May 10 at Stamford’s Ferguson Library Auditorium, will demystify the process of raising capital from a pool of small investors, many of whom are loyal customers and want to support their local businesses.

“Start-ups and entrepreneurship are part of Stamford’s DNA,” said Kate Berg, Operations Director at The Stamford Partnership. “StartLab will add a whole new dimension to this community, further cementing Stamford as one of the East Coast’s innovation and economic hubs. This comes at a time when entrepreneurship across the country is at record highs — more than 4 million new businesses were created in the U.S. in 2020.”

Stamford has long been home to a vibrant start-up scene spanning several industries, from finance and fintech to food & beverage, insurance and software-as-a-service (SaaS). StartLab was custom-built to serve this diverse community and capture the momentum created by The Stamford Partnership’s popular Stamford Innovation Week, transforming a five-day event into a year-round initiative.

“StartLab embodies The Stamford Partnership’s mission — to help local businesses connect, start, learn, and grow” noted the organization’s CEO, Jon Winkel. “We’re excited to partner with the city’s innovators and help them launch — and sustain — game-changing businesses.”
